Hamburger Camerata
Haydn / Mozart / Hummel
Pianist and conductor simultaneously: Martin Stadtfeld does what was so often done in the 18th century – he conducts the orchestra from the keyboard instrument, just as Joseph Haydn is said to have done. His »London« symphonies from the 1790s can also be performed with a keyboard instrument. Haydn’s younger colleague and friend Mozart also conducted some of his own piano concertos from the soloist’s seat. Johann Nepomuk Hummel was almost like a foster-son to Haydn and Mozart. The successful composer and pianist literally lived in the Mozart home, and in 1804 Haydn recommended him as his successor in Esterházy.
