Borodin’s unfinished sextet and Tchaikovsky’s »Souvenir de Florence« are based on Russian folk songs, while the slow movement of Tchaikovsky’s work could be associated with a moonlight night on the banks of the Arno river, where the tones coming from the violin and cello grow from a gondolier’s song to a passionate love duet. Dvořák’s sextet is also a musical melange: Bohemian folk songs are inspired by Vienna through Dvořák’s mentor Johannes Brahms and the famous Slavonic Dances can also be heard.

The Frielinghaus Ensemble consists of award-winning international chamber musicians, soloists and orchestral players from all parts of Germany and other European countries. An integral part of the Frielinghaus Ensemble’s concert programme is an annual Northern Germany tour in early January, which includes its popular New Year’s concert.
