Handel hits from Helsinki!

It is beyond doubt that George Frideric Handel composed his most beloved open-air music during his time in London. His »Music for the Royal Fireworks« and his »Water Music«, with their magnificent wind fanfares, elegant rhythms and many catchy elements, still make for the very best entertainment. The Finnish Baroque Orchestra now performs these baroque classics in the most luminous colours of sound!

For over 30 years now, the Helsinki-based Finnish Baroque Orchestra has been one of the world‘s leading orchestras when it comes to featuring historic period instruments in performances in an inspiring and above all lively way. The orchestra is also particularly at home with the works of Handel. Something clearly in evidence at past international early music festivals – with performances of his oratorios, for instance, including »The Messiah«.

Now things are about to get instrumentally rousing though – with the three Water Music Suites first performed in 1717 on a boat trip along the Thames, and the Fireworks Music, which had its open-air premiere in 1749.
