Filmvorführung »Allemagne année 90 neuf zéro«
Reflektor Manfred Eicher / Elbphilharmonie+ / Gespräch mit Jean-Luc Godard
When Godard travelled to East Germany to shoot »Allemagne année 90 neuf zéro«, the Berlin Wall had already fallen. The German Democratic Republic was dissolving before Godard’s eyes, and with it the system known as »real Socialism«. »East Germany shortly before the Berlin Wall came down seemed to me a country of great loneliness.« Godard was not thinking of individual loneliness, but of the loneliness of an entire people, of a state. The way the main characters in the film wander between East and West, wavering between communism and capitalism, embodies the state of ideological conflict that Europe was in at the time. A visual essay, and Godard’s personal interpretation of the end of the Cold War.
