The American contemporary-music scene was and remains the domain of great mavericks, sound discoverers and explorers of the future, thanks to whom the USA has a highly distinctive musical landscape. And it was by no means only men who were responsible for the innovations: Ruth Crawford-Seeger, for example, became the first in a whole line of important female composers from America. Taking her, John Cage and Elliott Carter as its starting point – a triumvirate of very different, epoch-making composers – the programme of the Musikfabrik reaches ahead to music of the here and now.
