With great passion and energy, Paavo Järvi and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen allow audiences to experience the young Schubert in all his unbridled joy of exploration. Schubert already began composing intensively at boarding school in Vienna, and was soon trying his hand at the supreme discipline of the symphony.
His First and Second exude a spirited lust for life, and despite the clear influence of great role models such as Haydn and Mozart, it is still possible to hear Schubert’s unique voice coming through.
In contrast to the rambunctious atmosphere of those two early works, Brahm’s Violin Concerto is a mature and almost philosophical work. Despite the countless technical difficulties with which Brahms peppered the solo part, the work has been a cornerstone of the concert repertoire ever since it was first performed. Veronika Eberle now takes on the challenge and, after the existential drama of the first movement, really lets the sparks fly in the finale.
