The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen / Leila Josefowicz / Matthias Pintscher
Ravel: Ma mère l’oye / Pintscher: Assonanza / Schumann: Symphony No. 1
Almost brand new
Opportunities to experience the most exciting contemporary composers performing their own music are rare. Luckily, the composer Matthias Pintscher has also long been active as a conductor and now, together with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and violinist Leila Josefowizc, performs his recent piece »Assonanza«.
The work started out as a seemingly endless melody for unaccompanied violin. But at Josefowicz’s suggestion, Pintscher – in the enforced solitude of the coronavirus pandemic – expanded »Assonanza« into a violin concerto that was premiered in Cincinnati in 2022.
This highly expressive work is juxtaposed with two contrasting pieces of music. The first is Maurice Ravel’s suite »Ma mère l’oye«. Ravel was inspired to write these five elegant pieces by a well-known fairy-tale.
And the concert comes to a close with Robert Schumann’s »Spring Symphony«. Schumann produced an outline of his First in just four days, and the exuberant music has lost nothing of its power to captivate to this day.
