City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra / Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla
Britain Calling
»Power Ladies« would be a fair title for the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra’s concert programme: with the exception of an opera suite by William Walton, the tone is set exclusively by first-class female musicians. Chief conductor Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla presents the Second Symphony by composer Ruth Gipps, a legendary figure in England, while the brilliant trumpeter and winner of several ECHO Klassik awards Alison Balsom plays in the German premiere of the Trumpet Concerto dedicated to her by Scottish grande dame Thea Musgrave.
