Dutch artist Thomas Ankersmit plays venues as varied as Berlin’s Berghain club, the Tate Modern Gallery in London and international festivals for contemporary music. Both live and in the studio, Ankersmit works with the Serge modular synthesizer, which was developed by Serge Tcherepnin in the 1970s as one of the first fairly compact and affordable electronic instruments. Rumbling infrasounds, the deliberate misuse of equipment and playing with sounds that are born in the listener’s mind: these are the things that fascinate Ankersmit. At the centre of Hamburg’s St. Pauli district, in the bunker on Feldstraße, audiences can hear electronic music in the »ePhil« series that has the courage of its convictions. Electronic artists, creative hardware builders and freethinkers who love to experiment have been producing exciting sensual experiences here since 2015, with sounds analogue and digital, and with visual installations. In the darkened atmosphere of the »resonanzraum«, voted Music Club of the Year for 2017, four musical adventurers give us a look at the music of the future.
