One of tonight’s artists is a jack of all trades, a restless go-getter. The other has the reputation of a sensitive good-looker with a fondness for subtlety, someone who would never be provocative. As a rule, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. And that applies to Rolando Villazón and Xavier de Maistre as well. They are both among the top stars in their field, though the field is actually hard to define with artists whose activities are so wide-ranging. Stylistic expectations are inappropriate here. They both regularly adopt a different viewpoint, full of curiosity and infectious enthusiasm, and open up new ways of looking at the music. In their first concert together, they pay a visit to Villazón’s native Mexico and the result is an unusual song recital – full of Latino vivacity!
