»Masters of Jazz« is a new series put on by the NDR Big Band that highlights major jazz personalities. The series is curated by the former chief conductor of the HR and NDR Big Band, Jörg Achim Keller. One of the best-known figures in big-band jazz was Bob Brookmeyer. As an outstanding valve tombonist he was a founding member of the legendary Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, and wrote countless arrangements for this ensemble. Shortly before his death in December 2011 he guest-conducted the NDR Big Band. The concert pays tribute to Brookmeyer’s work as an arranger and composer.
