After the opening concert of the Stravinsky Festival, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra shows the 1965 film of »Apollon Musagète« in its »Nachtstudio« – a rare opportunity to see the film, which has not been shown for over 40 years.

In 1965, Rolf Liebermann not only made a three-part film portrait of Stravinsky, he also agreed with George Balanchine, the choreographer at the first performance of the ballet »Apollon Musagète«, to make a completely new production of the entire ballet for television. The four lead dancers, all star soloists of the New York City Ballet, were flown over to Hamburg, and a room at the NDR TV centre was rebuilt to create a ballet stage. Today this production is widely considered the best TV production ever of Stravinsky’s world-famous ballet – not least thanks to the participation of Jacques d’Amboise and Suzanne Farrell in the roles of Apollo and Terpsichore respectively.<´/p>
