It was Mozart who helped Teodor Currentzis turn the classical-music world on its head a good seven years ago. The industrious Greek with a Russian passport was already known back then for his uncompromising interpretations, but with his cycle of three Mozart operas he and his MusicAeterna ensembles conquered the world from their base in the Russian city of Perm, making Currentzis an international star almost overnight. Now he and his faithful retinue perform Mozart at the Elbphilharmonie.

On the programme is the monumental C minor Mass – Mozart’s most important contribution to the genre. Currentzis supplements the unfinished masterpiece with a cappella music by the medieval mystic Hildegard von Bingen, whose important work has influenced our cultural history for nearly 1000 years now.
