His perfection is breathtaking, and he plays with a transparency nothing short of astonishing. After Jewgenij Kissin’s last recital in the »Master Pianists« series, the WELT spoke of »absolute spirituality«, of music rendered »as if with a sharpened pencil«. The Russian-Israeli pianist’s interpretations are always marked by technical brilliance and at the same time a deeply emotional feeling for the music, so that at every recital the listener has the sense that he is witnessing a process of creation. Kissin himself sees his playing not as the most accurate possible reproduction of the score, but as a truly creative act. For that reason alone, pianist-composers like Frédéric Chopin or George Gershwin are presumably close to his heart.
