»Everything he touches turns into musical gold«. According to the highly-regarded classical-music magazine »Musical America«, Constantinos Carydis is the Midas of star conductors. And it’s true that the Greek-born conductor has met with a enthusiastic reception at the world’s top opera houses and with the best orchestras since he won the Bavarian State Opera’s Carlos Kleiber Prize. Tonight, Carydis demonstrates his talent for opera and orchestral music alike with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.

To ensure a good-humoured mixture of symphonic and vocal works, Carydis brings in his compatriot Danae Kontora, who performs concert arias and opera highlights by Mozart and Richard Strauss to fine effect with her bell-like soprano. But the acclaimed Bremen orchestra has plenty of opportunity to shine as well, in Mozart’s much-loved »Haffner« Symphony and in the wondrous String Sextet by Strauss, who literally worshipped Mozart. The finale with Beethoven’s rhythm-heavy Seventh Symphony raises the beat count even further.
