CANCELLED: Claudio Monteverdi: Marienvesper
Monteverdi
The concert programme of the Elbphilharmonie and the Laeiszhalle cannot go ahead as planned due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. This event has to be postponed – we will soon inform you about an alternative date here.
Modern and outrageous: when Monteverdi brought his Vespers for the Blessed Virgin to Rome in 1610, he presented the Pope with nothing less than a musical sensation. His composition in honour of the Holy Mary forms a synthesis of traditional, »perfect« polyphony and innovative concertos for solo voices, which had not found their way into the church in this form before. Students at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover, under conductor Daniel Zimmermann, now perform the Vespers with the Hannoversche Hofkapelle.
