»Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son« – so it is written in the first book of Moses, the first book of the Christian Bible and the Jewish Tanakh. The new concert project by the Elbphilharmonie’s own »Chor zur Welt« (World Choir), with singers from many different nations, explores the ambivalence and corporeality of faith. Together with the Berlin-based Trickster Orchestra there emerges a new, full-length composition blending improvisation and early and modern music. The libretto is by the philosopher, theologian and author Senthuran Varatharajah.

The Elbphilharmonie’s Chor zur Welt was founded in spring 2017 as a project choir for young people from Germany and Syria as part of the »Salām Syria« festival. Since then, it has already given many stirring concerts, and the line-up has also developed further. By now, singing enthusiasts from many different countries make music together.
