Contemporary composers love him: no technical refinement is too tricky for him, no note is too high, no rhythm too complex. And for Britain’s The Times, Håkan Hardenberger is nothing less than »the best trumpet player in the galaxy«. The Swedish musician has been at the top of the list of international trumpet virtuosi for years now, but there is one time of year when even he cannot escape the simple magic inherent in his instrument: as Christmas comes closer, people start to long for the edifying sound and the golden lustre of the trumpet! With a perfect mixture of his highly virtuoso core repertoire and festive Baroque music, Hardenberger and the Amsterdam Sinfonietta have put together a particularly fine Advent programme.
