Blind Date
Surprise Concert with the Calefax Reed Quintet
More than 35 years ago, the Calefax Reed Quintet from the Netherlands founded a new genre: the reed quintet. Since then, the combination of oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon and bass clarinet has established itself internationally and inspires ensembles all over the world. As pioneers in their field, the five musicians also contribute to the expansion and dissemination of the repertoire, arrange classical works for their instrumentation, compose themselves and commission compositions. They make the resulting works available in their own Calefax Edition. At their surprise concert in the Elbphilharmonie, they demonstrate their stylistic versatility and present music ranging from baroque to contemporary.
Welcome to Blind Date! Here, anything is possible: groovy folk fiddle music, crossover string quartets, virtuosic live piano improvisation combining jazz and classical music. The imagination is boundless, but not when the surprise is revealed in advance! Included in a Blind Date ticket is a free drink – so that you can ask the evening’s artists at the bar what you just heard!
