Few Rules – Great Range
A quiet moment, when you can almost taste the tension in the air. Then the conductor taps his baton on the railing of the rostrum: total concentration. A bead of perspiration runs down a violinist’s nose and bursts on the floor. The cellist trembles with excitement and has trouble controlling his bowstroke. And then, finally, Allegro con brio, the orchestra starts to play. The audience experiences all this not only at a concert, but also at a slam performance, where the words and ideas formed are symphonies in the listener’s ears. Poetry slam is probably the most interesting cultural genre of our time – a live contest between poets with few rules and a wide range. Hamburg is the no. 1 slam city, and in the meantime slam and even the Elbphilharmonie belong together.
