Balanescu Quartet / Steve Argüelles
»Maria Tănase«
This project was inspired by the life and voice of the legendary Romanian folk singer Maria Tănase. Born in 1913, she achieved a mythical status in Romania during her lifetime and after her death in 1963. She represented the soul and spirit of Romanian folk music, and her rich, deep voice made a lasting contribution to the preservation of the traditions of her people. The Romanian-born Alexander Balanescu conducts research on the legacy of Tănase’s beautiful and striking songs.
