Russian pianist Anna Zassimova is an outstanding Chopin performer as well as an excellent interpreter of contemporary music. Trained in Moscow and Karlsruhe, the art historian and musicologist (she has a PhD in the latter subject) takes a particular interest in discovering and performing the works of little-known composers. Her book about the life and music of Georgi Catoire, a Franco-Russian composer and a pioneer of modern Russian music, is the first comprehensive study of Catoire to be published. Anna Zassimova now appears at the Elbphilharmonie with a recital programme of late romantic and impressionist music.
