Schubert’s Mass
Franz Schubert’s Mass in E flat major is his last work in the genre, and his largest-scale sacred composition of all. He wrote it in the last year of his life, which was filled with restless creative activity, and also yielded »Tantum ergo« and »Intende voci«. While the latter two smaller works are marked by vibrant hope, the Mass also gives vivid musical expression to the depths of existential feeling.
