CANCELLED: Lorenz Kellhuber solo & Trio

»I do not compose anymore,« he is quoted once, and indeed Lorenz Kellhuber, who turns 30 this year, has dedicated himself entirely to the improvised play. His concerts are snapshots, unique sound experiences that demand everything from the listeners. With Felix Henkelhausen (bass) and Moritz Baumgärtner (drums) he found congenial partners for his trio project.

Born as son of two church musicians in 1990, Kellhuber started his classical piano studies at the young age of five. At the age of only sixteen, Lorenz passed an exam for the highly gifted and became a student at Berlin Jazz Institute, which he graduates from as one of the youngest students worldwide to receive a bachelor’s degree. 2014, he became the first German musician to receive first place in the renowned Parmigiani Montreux Jazz Piano Solo Competition from Monty Alexander. In 2016, Lorenz was nominated for the ECHO Jazz as »Newcomer of the Year«, in 2018 he was among the ten »new key players« of the German music magazine »Jazz thing«.

In celebration of his 30th birthday, the concert at the Elbphilharmonie mirrors Kellhuber’s musical biography: the programme will range from his early education in classical piano to free improvisation which in recent years developed as pivotal element of his artistry.
