His voice unites Hollywood, Las Vegas and Broadway alike – and that even though Engelbert – whose legal name is Arnold George Dorsey – is actually British. He has been conquering hearts on both sides of the Atlantic for decades. With more than 150 million records sold, Engelbert – who was born in Madras, India, in 1936 – is one of the most successful pop artists of all time. Many of his songs, not least his first worldwide hit »Release Me« of 1967, still bespeak a timeless grandeur, the like of which only few musicians can conjure.
