With new energy

If Philippe Jaroussky had not had this one particular teacher at school, it would have been a bitter loss for today’s music world. Hard as it may be to imagine, the singer was born in a Parisian suburb in 1978 – to a completely unmusical family. On his teacher’s advice, Jaroussky started to take violin lessons, but later switched to singing and went on to become one of the most visionary countertenors of our time. He has lent and continues to lend a unique new energy to this special vocal register. He performs many of his carefully composed programmes together with the ensemble Artaserse, which he founded, and that applies to this programme following the reopening of the Elbphilharmonie after the seven-month closure due to coronavirus.
