Elbphilharmonie Hamburg Großer Saal
NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra / Alan Gilbert
Bernstein / Brahms / Ives / Varèse
The NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra opens the 2019/20 season together with its new chief conductor Alan Gilbert. Who is the new man in charge of the orchestra? What does his artist's heart beat for? What does he want to achieve? Alan Gilbert gives musical answers with six exciting and many-faceted programmes in eight concerts. At the opening night, the New York native with Japanese roots discovers his personal »musical continents« together with the orchestra and the audience, and lets these continents drift towards one another.
Please note: The mezzo-soprano Kelley O'Connor has regrettably been forced to cancel her appearance in this concert at short notice due to health reasons. Rinat Shaham steps in to sing the mezzo-soprano role in Leonard Bernstein's Symphony No. 1 »Jeremiah«.

Coughing, Clapping, Chatting – Recommendations for Sensitive Acoustics
A concert at the Elbphilharmonie is a unique experience for both audience and artists. Guests and musicians alike rave about the precise acoustics in the Grand Hall. You can hear every note, even from the highest balcony.
Unfortunately, the opposite is also true: even presumably quiet noises from the audience are clearly audible in the entire hall. We therefore ask our visitors to take the following recommendations into consideration, because »Everything Can Be Heard Here«.
-
Cloakroom
The main cloakroom of the Grand Hall is situated on the 11th floor, at the south and north side of the Elbphilharmonie.
Baby carriages, wheeled walkers, walking-stick umbrellas, handbags larger than DIN A3 (42 cm x 30 cm) as well as sport bags, backpacks and suitcases must be checked in at the cloakroom. If required, wheeled walkers can be parked in the immediate vicinity of the hall entrances. Our front of house staff is happy to assist you in this regard.
