Politics ad absurdum

Victor Orbán shows how down to earth he is by taking the train, Vladimir Putin by doing judo and Sebastian Kurz by petting animals – politicians will do almost anything to make a good impression on voters. The Viennese cabaret duo Mascheck show how absurd and laughable that can get with live post-dubbing of TV news and video clips taken from YouTube and other social platforms.

Peter Hörmanseder and Robert Stachel, aka »Maschek«, have been an integral feature of Vienna’s cabaret landscape for 25 years. Over that time they have acquired a legendary reputation in Austria and as far as northern Germany: they gave their Elbphilharmonie debut in 2022 with a silent film dubbing session.

The duo’s name comes from the Viennese dialect expression »Maschekseiten«, which comes from Hungarian and means »the other side«. And in their latest programme »SPIN! Wie man dreht und wendet«, they keep a sharp and critical eye on the way the worlds of politics, business and society present themselves. Maschek skip through the great global crises, from climate to military conflict. The verdict from the Austrian daily »Der Standard«: »You’ll be in tears with this programme. Whether those are tears of joy or despair remains to be seen.«

Please note: This event takes place in German.
