Breathtaking masterpiece

The Mass in B minor is Bach’s last great vocal work, which he composed over a period of 25 years and completed in 1749, one year before his death. The Mass has always exerted a special fascination – according to Carl Friedrich Zelter in 1811, it is »the greatest work of art the world has ever seen«. Without a doubt, Bach’s Mass in B minor is one of the most outstanding compositions in music history. In his setting of the Mass text, Bach combines styles and compositional techniques from – at the time – the past and present to create a breathtaking masterpiece.
