Description

It goes without saying that Daniel Barenboim is one of the truly great musicians of our time. What sets him apart from many other highly-qualified pianists and conductors is his ability to bring people, but also ideas and visions together. He always thinks outside the cultural box, and in larger political or philosophical contexts.

Just recently, the founder of the Barenboim-Said Academy and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra summed up his point of view in an interview: »The cerebral element in music is as important as it is underestimated. Thought per se is a source of great stimulation for art!«

And even now, aged over 70, Barenboim is still full of energy to put his vision of music as a force to unite the world’s people into practice: the two latest examples are the concert hall, the Pierre Boulez Saal, and the foundation of the Boulez Ensemble in Berlin. Despite Barenboim’s many obligations, he still finds the time to concentrate completely on himself and his instrument – the piano.
