Indonesian Sounds

The Angklung Hamburg Orchestra (AHO) is a traditional music ensemble founded in June 2002 by Indonesian students of the Technical University of Hamburg (TUHH). The aim of the group is to present the fascinating bamboo sound of the Indonesian instrument angklung to a wider audience in Germany as well. To this day, the group consists of mostly Indonesian players and players with Indonesian roots: from pupils and students to employees from the Hamburg metropolitan region. For them, the Angklung Hamburg Orchestra is not only a group that meets to make music together, but also represents a stage on which they can give free rein to their creativity while working towards a common goal: To bring the beautiful, multicultural harmony of Indonesian culture a little closer to the world.

The benefit concert is organised in cooperation with the Hildesheimer Blindenmission e.V., which supports the school for the blind YAPENTRA (Yayasan Pendidikan Tunanetra Sumatera Utara) in Indonesia with the proceeds. The association particularly promotes education for blind children in Southeast Asia, so that they can develop their innate abilities and thereby strengthen their courage and self-confidence, and lead a dignified life.
