The Elbphilharmonie Organ
Spotlight on the Grand Hall’s centrepiece
Like the Elbphilharmonie, its organ is an architectural and musical landmark that attracts the crème de la crème of the international organ elite every year. This year, for example, the young Polish organist Karol Mossakowski, who is currently occupying one of the most traditional positions in the French capital – that of titular organist of the Church of Saint-Sulpice in Paris – makes a stop in Hamburg. David Briggs, one of the true organ greats who has become known above all for his outstanding improvisation skills and his arrangements of symphonic works, and Olivier Latry, probably one of the most famous and best organists of his generation, are returning to the River Elbe. Of course, Iveta Apkalna, the titular organist of the Elbphilharmonie, will also be back. She will first present an extraordinary duo programme for organ and piano together with pianist Herbert Schuch, before taking her place at the console once again as a soloist in the final concert of the series.
