Pianomania

Young piano stars who show what their fingers are capable of: the programmes are virtuosic and dramatic, but also tender and touching. The focus is on sonorous arrangements of large orchestral works for piano, three of them two-handed and one four-handed

Without arrangements and samplings, today’s pop music would hardly be conceivable. In fact, the practice of adapting other people’s works for a different instrumentation is based on a centuries-old tradition. Even Johann Sebastian Bach arranged works originally composed by others, such as Antonio Vivaldi, before his own music became the model for numerous arrangements. Incidentally, this has nothing to do with plagiarism – rather, such adaptations of a foreign work were considered a great compliment. In the 2024/25 edition of »Pianomania«, the programme explores precisely this exciting field of »transcriptions«, as musicologists call it.
