Pianists have always played a significant role in the history of jazz. On their 88 keys they bring together the important elements of the genre better than all other instrumentalists. They set the rhythm, and form the harmonic structure with their left hand, while still having the right hand free to superimpose a melody or improvisation. This was the simple model they used to get the jazz ball rolling at the beginning of the twentieth century and it is how they constantly reinvent the genre to this day.

The »Jazz Piano« series brings creative masters from vibrant jazz centres to the Laeiszhalle. From Tel Aviv we welcome the innovative Nitai Hershkovits, from Havana the captivating Harold López-Nussa, and from Helsinki the always cheerful Iiro Rantala. The jazz world tour finally comes to a glorious end with a German representative – Julia Hülsmann and her trio.
