The best orchestras, conductors and soloists in the world presenting traditional »core« repertoire - that is the goal of the concert series »Internationale Orchester« which has for years been one of the pillars of Hamburg’s classical music scene. The 2014/2015 season puts a spotlight on British orchestras. A total of four world-class orchestras from London and Birmingham travel to Hamburg with their respective principal and honorary conductors to present classics such as Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony and Mozart’s Symphony No. 40. The four orchestras from the European continent appearing in the series also have delicacies to offer: The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra presents a Brahms programme, the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin celebrates Mendelssohn’s »Italian« Symphony, the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich offers Ravel’s »La Valse.« Equally impressive is the choice of soloists, with violinists Julia Fischer, Frank Peter Zimmermann and Joshua Bell, cellist Sol Gabetta, and the pianists Yuja Wang and Jean-Yves Thibaudet. Last but not least, the tenor Klaus Florian Vogt comes to the Laeiszhalle for the grand finale Wagner evening as a reincarnated Knight of the Holy Grail. In cooperation with ProArte
