Dive into a centuries-old tradition with Indonesian gongs: welcome to the Elbphilharmonie’s Gamelan Ensemble

They are gentle, meditative sounds that let you immerse yourself in another realm: the gamelan is a wonderful-sounding instrument made up of gongs, drums and metallophones. Its origins stretch back many centuries to the royal courts on the islands of Bali and Java. The Elbphilharmonie owns a particularly beautiful example of this instrument from Java. It is played every week in two groups, led by the experienced teacher Steven Tanoto.
