Concert stream available until 23 July 2017.
Ingo Metzmacher, back in Hamburg: for many years, he was General Director of Music at the Hamburg State Opera – he returned to his old home for the opening festival of the Elbphilharmonie. And he was accompanied by one of the world’s best orchestras: there’s hardly another orchestra with a longer tradition, and hardly any ensemble has maintained its place as one of the three best orchestras in the world as constantly as the Vienna Philharmonic.
Metzmacher’s programme on the evening was made up entirely of modern music, featuring compositions by Hartmann, Webern and Shostakovich.
