The Artist
Daniel Brandt is a specialist in electro-acoustic music, effortlessly forging a link between electronica, creative krautrock and avantgarde music. Everything started with the ensemble Brandt Brauer Frick, which the musician set up together with two fellow students. However, their analogue club music doesn't consist of blunt hammering: it combines jazz elements with techno and modern classical music. In 2017, Brandt released his first solo album entitled »Eternal Something«, where he plays nearly all the instruments himself. In this Elbphilharmonie Session he presents the track »Flamingo« from his second album, »Channels«, accompanied by Florian Juncker on the trombone and Pascal Bideau on guitar.

»I made the album Channels the other way round from the usual way I record,« says Daniel Brandt in interview. Normally he just jams away with his band, producing ideas for songs that Brandt then forms into finished pieces on his own in the studio. But this time, he explains, he fiddled around on his own quite a lot and then went into the studio with just a rough sketch. »The songs only really took shape during rehearsal with the whole band.« One thing's for sure: you can't sit still while the track is playing. Go ahead, put the headphones on full blast and let the music work its magic!
The Location
The undulating moulded wooden panelling lends the Elbphilharmonie Recital Hall an intimate atmosphere and a warm sound. Unlike the Grand Hall, the smaller room has a classic rectangular »shoebox« shape, and can be flexibly adapted to suit different types of ensemble and concert formats.
