What do classic stars such as Igor Levit, Martin Grubinger and Janine Jansen all have in common? The answer is, of course, the launching of their international careers as Rising Stars. They were all previously selected as exceptional young artists for »Rising Stars« by the directors of Europe‘s most renowned concert halls. And now six new contenders are ready for their turn.

The first concert is given by Trio Catch, who were selected by four German concert halls and who have been teaching at Hamburg’s Musikhochschule as ensemble in residence since 2014. Contemporary music is of particular importance to the three musicians that make up the trio. How appropriate then that renowned contemporary composers have, for the first time, been commissioned to compose works especially for the »Rising Stars«.

The young musicians selected represent a broad stylistic spectrum, ranging from the harpist Remy van Kesteren (duet with trumpet!) to the classic string quartet Quatuor Zaïde. The festival week is rounded off with three soloists: Benjamin Appl, who was Dietrich Fischer-Dieskaus’s last student, the Luxembourgish pianist Cathy Krier, and the Dutch cellist Harriet Krijgh.
