Even if no one knows what the weather will be like, one thing’s for sure: summer will last a good while this year. Spread over five weeks, the Elbphilharmonie offers a full and colourful programme in relaxed atmosphere and at the usual top standard. From classical orchestral concerts, jazz and world music to films accompanied by live music, the festival contains everything the heart desires. The Austrian jazz band Shake Stew supplies the right motto with their programme »(A)live!«.

And that’s exactly how it should be: lively – and above all live again – at last! The classical content is provided entirely by youngsters: with Daniel Barenboim’s famous West-Eastern Divan Orchestra and three other youth orchestras, the best young musicians from all over the world ensure a fresh approach and a good atmosphere in the Grand Hall. Audiences can also look forward to stars like Igor Levit, Yuja Wang and Janine Jansen.

The jazz, too, comes partly from the young musicians – the members of the Elbphilharmonie Jazz Academy, who spend a week rehearsing their programme under the expert tuition of Yaron Herman. The spectrum of the remaining concerts ranges from legendary guitarist Bill Frisell and folk musician Rhiannon Giddens to the Swiss all-star trio Brandão / Faber / Sophie Hunger. Rufus Wainwright is joined at the Elbphilharmonie this time by his sister Martha, while Caetano Veloso is a genuine legend of Brazilian music. Summer is on the way!
