Ich liebe Dich

Rarely has love been so heartbreakingly, smartly and self-ironically put to music as by the Swiss supergroup of Dino Brandão, Faber and Sophie Hunger. The three met last summer at Lake Zurich (after their individual tours and albums had been canceled) and decided to overcome the coldness and distance of the pandemic lockdown with a love manifesto of 12 songs in Swiss dialect. Entitled captivatingly simple »Ich liebe Dich«, it is characterized by a lyrical honesty, which in dialect reaches a Manni Matter-like poetic sound force: »Ich ha probiert mich selbst zsi, aber ich han g’merkt es isch de Horror«, sings Faber, »S’tropft Bluet vu eusem Rosegarte / S’Läbe isch es Risiko / Was hesch erwartet«, sings Brandão, »Z’Glück isch Begehre / S’wird grösser, wenn’s schwer isch«, sings Hunger. The immediacy and fragility of the songs is enhanced by the trio playing all instruments themselves (except for the string arrangements). Now Brandão, Faber and Hunger are performing their love manifesto in the Grand Hall of the Elbphilharmonie – the first one of four different concerts in collaboration with the Kampnagel Summer Festival.
