With Youssou N’Dour, one of Africa’s leading musical and political voices comes to the Elbphilharmonie. The gifted singer and composer, go-getting businessman and influential politician, who was born in Senegal’s capital Dakar in 1959, played a central role from the late 1970s in the development of the West African Mbalax style – a blend of Latin, jazz and soul, combined with traditional sabar drum rhythms from Senegal and Gambia.
