Voix de Femmes
Ola Gjeilo: Northern Lights – 2G+ AND PHYSICAL DISTANCE
Nordic vocal music
Ola Gjeilo began composing before he could read music. As a child in Skui, Norway, not far from Oslo, he taught himself to play the piano and he composed pieces, which his father, an amateur saxophonist, then set down for him. He later drew inspiration from the improvisation art of the film composer Thomas Newman, the pianist Keith Jarrett, the glass artist Dale Chihuly and the architect Frank Gehry. In his work, voices and piano fuse into one moving body of sound – cinematic, Nordic, melancholic and deep. This concert by the Franco-German vocal ensemble Voix de Femmes is dedicated to this exceptional composer.
