Vilde Frang & Friends
Veress / Arensky / Enescu
Norwegian violinist Vilde Frang has been delighting international audiences with her passionate and natural playing since the age of 11. True to the title »Vilde Frang & Friends«, in tonight’s concert the eight musicians celebrate many years of friendship and playing together in a programme that culminates in Enescu’s Octet.
The Romanian composer George Enescu wrote his Octet, an almost orchestral stroke of genius, when he was only 19. The work illustrates his unmistakable style that lies between the Paris and Viennese schools at the turn of the century. We also hear the String Quartet dedicated to his countryman Tchaikovsky by Anton Arensky, whose name has unjustly sunk into oblivion over the years.
All eight friends appearing on the stage this evening are notable virtuosi in their own right, for example, the internationally acclaimed cellist Nicolas Altstaedt, who plays as a soloist and in chamber formations, or the viola player Lawrence Power, winner of several awards.
