Vespro della Beata Vergine / Monteverdi-Chor Hamburg

In 2017 the 450th anniversary of Claudio Monteverdi’s birth will be celebrated all over the world. It goes without saying that the Hamburg Monteverdi-Chor will be congratulating the composer too. All the more so, since it’s a double anniversary for the singers: exactly 50 years ago, to mark the 400th birthday of a musical genius still largely undiscovered at the time, the Monteverdi-Chor joined forces with the Vienna Concentus Musicus to produce a recording of the Monteverdi Vespers that triggered the work’s triumphal march through the world’s concert halls. This evening, the Hamburg ensemble once again turns its attention to this choral masterpiece.
