When Thomas Quasthoff confesses that he »had always found it dangerous when everything is one-sided«, you immediately believe him. After all, the erstwhile star baritone was always an all-round talent. Before conquering the world’s stages as an opera and oratorio singer, he – as a student – used to sing in Hannover’s jazz clubs with his brother at the piano.
Before Quasthoff’s official retirement in 2012 he looked back to this period by releasing two acclaimed jazz albums in 2007 and 2010: »I find leaving my comfort zone every now and again incredibly stimulating. In the best cases that can lead to you becoming a universal artist.« Mission accomplished! He visits the Laeiszhalle with the all-star trio Frank Chastenier, Wolfgang Haffner and Dieter Ilg.
