Theo Bleckmann / »An Evening with Charles Ives«
Schwerpunkt Charles Ives
Although Charles Ives is now regarded as one of America’s most important composers, most of his works were only discovered later on. The Elbphilharmonie devotes a set of five concerts to this adventurous composer. In this chamber music concert the well-known jazz singer Theo Bleckmann performs songs by Ives, both with piano accompaniment and in arrangements with string quartet contributed by American pianist and composer Timo Andres, who likewise takes part in this evening’s programme. In addition to the songs, we hear Ives’s First String Quartet and the Violin Sonata No. 4, a work of considerable variety.
