Timbre on the rostrum

Prior to 2008, Nathalie Stutzmann was known first and foremost as a singer: she delighted audiences all over the world with her unique timbre in operas by Handel and Gluck and in song recitals featuring Poulenc or Schubert. Then she made her debut as a conductor – and embarked on a no less rapid rise to renown on the rostrum. Today, the charismatic musician is first guest conductor of Philadelphia Orchestra and head of Norway’s Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra. But the energetic Frenchwoman continues to oil her voice too, and not only when she is standing on the rostrum or in the orchestra pit.
