Reflektor Nils Frahm / Double Bill
Nils Frahm has invited artists who complement each other perfectly to play at the concerts in the Recital Hall during his »Reflektor« festival. At the double-bill concerts, each half is performed by a different musician. The first evening features the Finnish brothers Samu and Ville Kuukka, better known as The Gentleman Losers. They are followed by Hamburg-native Martyn Heyne on the guitar and the percussionist Tatu Rönkkö, who appeared on Nils Frahm’s »All Melody« album.

Following the release of their album »Permanently Midnight« in 2017, The Gentleman Losers unveiled »Make We Here Our Camp of Winter« one year later in December 2018. Nils Frahm has been a fan of their music from the outset, including the track »Honey Bunch« on his compilation »Late Night Tales«. A good reason for inviting the two brothers to »Reflektor«.
Like Nils Frahm, Martyn Heyne belongs to a generation of musicians whose compositions and improvisations sometimes tie in with Romanticism, sometimes with American minimal music. Heyne, a Hamburg native who later relocated to Berlin, studied at the Amsterdam Conservatoire. Apart from this classical training, it was the city of Berlin in particular that brought him new musical inspiration. He immersed himself in Berlin club culture and in the constantly expanding field of electronica. He is joined by percussionist Tatu Rönkkö, who also appears under the name Liima with the band Efterklang, and has already played at the Elbphilharmonie’s »Greatest Hits« festival.
