Sensibility and power
The list of prizes won is a long one, and despite her young age, she has already accumulated plenty of competition experience. But one competition was to be different from all the previous ones: the 2021 Concours musical international de Montréal, which took place without an audience because of the pandemic. Instead of convincing attentive listeners, the young South Korean pianist Su Yeon Kim played to cameras and microphones. A completely new challenge, especially as the otherwise obligatory concerts were omitted, and the participants had to choose their own programme. »This way, I was free to put together a programme of works that I enjoy playing, works that reflect my personality.« And this aspiring young musician certainly has plenty of talent. Described by the press as »one of the most sensitive and sincere musicians of the young generation«, it is particularly her ability to »read between the notes«, together with her respect for every composer and her stubbornness, that make Su Yeon Kim such a promising artist.
